Nick Kumpis, PGA Teaching Professional


W
hile working with players of all ages and skill levels, Nick has come to believe there is not one correct swing for everyone. His knowledge of golf swing mechanics, balanced with understanding of a student’s individual physical abilities and goals, gives him the ability to put anyone on the path to become a successful golfer.

Nick has taught in over 20 states, and has considerable experience with golfers of all levels, from accomplished players to beginners and juniors. He is highly-skilled in video swing analysis, which he incorporates into private lessons. He also uses the TOMI video putting system.

Hall of Fame instructor Jim Flick handpicked Nick to join the Nicklaus/Flick Golf Schools. The youngest instructor on staff at that time, Nick honed his own teaching style working beside Jim Flick and Golf Digest Top 50 instructor Mike Malaska.

Nick taught at Pelican Hill Resort, after several years at Anaheim Hills and Dad Miller Golf Courses, where, as Director of Instruction, he founded the Anaheim Golf Academy. He also co-founded the Southpaw Golf Academy, a school tailored to the needs of left-handed golfers.

Nick’s career took off when Hall of Fame instructor Jim Flick handpicked Nick to join the Nicklaus/Flick Golf Schools. The youngest instructor on staff at that time, Nick honed his own teaching style working beside Jim Flick and Golf Digest Top 50 instructor Mike Malaska (currently Director of Instruction, Nicklaus Academies Worldwide), in golf schools, corporate outings and PGA TOUR-related events.

Nick also trained extensively with Hank Haney, teaching beside him at the ESPN Golf Schools, and moving to Texas, by invitation, to study Haney’s methods at the Hank Haney Golf Ranch. Both Jim and Hank, two of Nick’s mentors, are regularly ranked in the top 5 of Golf Digest’s “America’s Greatest Teachers”.

Nick also trained extensively with Hank Haney, teaching beside him at the ESPN Golf Schools, and moving to Texas, by invitation, to study Haney’s methods at the Hank Haney Golf Ranch. Over the past year Nick has written multiple articles for “Golf Tips Magazine” a national golf instruction magazine. Subjects include “Putt 4 Dough”, “Power Tip & Drills” and “From 150 Yards Out.”

As an ESPN Golf Schools Top 25 instructor, Nick frequently contributed to ESPN.com’s Instructor Mailbag, offering tips and answering golf questions. He also recorded video tips featured on ESPN Motion within the Golf home page of ESPN.com and on Lexus.com in 2003.

Nick graduated from the University of Redlands in Southern California where he competed on both the golf and football teams. An Orange County native, Nick grew up and resides in Fountain Valley, CA.
